York Community Offers Neighbors Bird's Eye View While Helping Local Nonprofit During Second Annual Family Fund Event
YORK--Developers of the Lauren Pines community in York want neighbors to enjoy their 54-estate lot project from the ground up--way up.
On Aug. 29 Lauren Pines takes to the air offering tethered hot air balloon rides, hikes and even meals provided by local Boy Scout Troop 366 during the second annual Lauren Pines Day. Anyone in the community is welcome to schedule a balloon ride and enjoy the festivities, which benefit the Scout troop.
“We wanted to have something fun for residents and for the community that also supports a local nonprofit group,” said Edward Johnson, project manager for Lake Wylie-based Laureate Developers. “Lauren Pines Day is an annual event designed to promote a sense of fun and community throughout the local area.”
Scouts are currently pre-selling tickets for balloon rides, which run 7-10 a.m. and again at 4-7 p.m. weather permitting, for $10. Children age 5 and younger ride free with a paying adult. Along with the ticket comes a meal provided by the troop, with breakfast for the morning rides and a hamburger plate in the afternoon.
“For $10 to get a balloon ride, enjoy the community and have a meal, that’s hard to beat,” said Steve House, York-based marketing director for Lauren Pines. “It’s such a unique opportunity for fun and it supports a great cause at the same time.”
In addition to the food, Scout activities and prizes, Lauren Pines Day also allows the community to enjoy more than 25 acres of scenery. Located on the property are historic hardwoods, a creek, large boulders and a small bridge atop a carved path. The large wilderness area on site will be available for guided-tour hiking during the event.
Anyone who tours one of the two model homes on site or walks the wilderness trail will be automatically registered for prizes. If inclement weather keeps the balloon from going up, the rainout date is Sept. 19.
Lauren Pines, located on S.C. 161 in York just north of the U.S. 321 intersection, offers scenic walking trails with 100-plus year old hardwoods in a beautiful, quiet setting. One- and two-story homes feature side-load garages, landscaping requirements, minimum square footage of 2,000 square feet and a minimum of 40 percent brick or stone veneer front accents.
